  • Research is the answer.

Ovarian cancer is the most lethal gynaecological disease with less than 50% of patients surviving more than five years after their diagnosis.

  • With no early detection test and vague symptoms, it is often diagnosed late, making it difficult to treat. However, if detected early, particularly before symptoms appear, studies suggest the survival rate could increase above 90%.

That’s the goal for Professor Carlos Salomon Gallo and his team at the University of Queensland.

Since 2017, the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation has been supporting Professor Gallo’s research into early detection.

  • This team has developed a highly specialised blood test known as OCRF-7 which detects a constellation of signals in the blood that indicate very early signs of ovarian cancer.

Recently, Professor Gallo’s research attracted extra funding from the Australian Government to progress to further testing and trials. Together, we will overcome ovarian cancer.

It's time to find a cure

There is currently no early detection test for ovarian cancer. As a result, around 70% of women are diagnosed in the advanced stages where only 29% are expected to live beyond five years. Even if treatment succeeds in removing the cancer, there is an 80% chance of remission.

Research makes a huge difference

Chronic underfunding of ovarian cancer research has resulted in a very low survival rate (49%) compared to other cancers like breast cancer (92%) and prostate cancer (96%) which have benefited from a high level of awareness and funding.

Help more women survive. When you purchase Ovarian Cancer Socks, you're funding life-saving research into the development of an early detection test and better treatments which are key to improving survival and quality of life for patients.
